The Wheelock Door makes me think of this small up north lake surrounded by a bogue and tall slender pine and cedar trees. They seem to light up
like this door when the moon is full
This design was inspired by all the small islands near this larger one in Northern lake Michigan . The water is not always flat like the door surface, and the islands themselves are very rugged , similar to the textured bark.
Gills Pier is on the west side of Lake Michigan, northwest of Traverse City. Its smooth sandy beach is like the door frame and the curved bark reminds me of the sometimes large rolling waves that land there.
Design inspired from image of the small bridge between Little Glen Lake and Big Glen Lake. The panel is similar in that I made it float on top of the door, much like the look of the actual structure. The bark is much like the ripples on the surface of the lake.
This door is a perfect design for log cabin homes, with the smoothness of the cherry frames & the semi-rough bark looking like weathered logs on the exterior of the home.
Engles Bay is a beautifully rounded area on Grand Traverse Bay, near Omena, Michigan in which the curved bark on the door panel surface was designed after.
The rough texture of the frame is like various driftwood pieces in the sand. While the birch bark reminds me of the different colors of the sand up north when its wet and while it is drying.
The design was sculpted for a modern house front door. The pyramid in the middle represents the actual roof on the home and the bark the beautiful landscaping of the real home.
